the icy stone carved to the russet skin to depict the beast nestled amid expressive clouds, with finely details executing a tight incisions along the bushy tail and trailing main, the face and eyes with curvilinear details.

Overall good condition with several natural fissures, mostly on the chest, the back and the underside of the beast.

Provenance:Acquired from Gurie Gallery, Toronto, during 1950-60s.
Initially based in Harbin in northeastern China during the first half of the 20th Century, the Gurevich family moved to Canada during the 1950s and opened the Gurie Gallery, a staple of Montreal’s trendy Sherbrooke street. The Gurie Gallery was one of the first to focus on Chinese ceramics, decorative arts, and paintings, and was extremely popular with collectors in Montreal, Toronto, and New York. The son, Alex Gurevich (1929-1990), took over the store during the 1960s and continued to source objects through frequent visits to Hong Kong.1950-60年代購自多倫多Gurie藝廊。該藝廊由古列維奇Gurevich家族創建，上世紀五十年代從遠東哈爾濱遷居北美加拿大，系加國最早專營中國藝術品的古董行之一，在蒙特利爾、多倫多和紐約三地設有店鋪。1960年代傳于二代掌門人Alex Gurevich (1929-1990)，往返香港進貨。
